Your lawyer is absolutely wrong. All applications received on or before 17th Aug.2007 must be received by USCIS, even if they can't open the the packets on or before 17th Aug.2007.

I agree with kshitijnt that you need past employer more than you need client. In my case I had received 485 query to supply some my employment related docs ( whether that I am working with responser or working with someone else, letter from company showing my current position,sal. etc). Since I didn't change my employer, it was very easy and quick to get such documents from current employer. Imagine if I would have switched on EAD then I would have to chase my past employer for letters, paystubs etc and by the I would got them from past employer,I faced the risk of PD moving back.
Your case is different becasue you filed your I-485 with them. Here he has not started 485 at all.I don't know how he can maintain good relation with them. Some employer are too torugh to deal and same goes with some employees too.

what if they issued FP notices but not issued EAD and/or AP.

None of immigration-related bills was apparently attached to this bill. As we get closer to election day it seems that Democrats will have control of the Congress. All the polls that have been and are being conducted show that the Democrats are leading the Republicans by double digits.
If Democrats win the CIR will get through but the there will be a huge backlog as there arent enough people at USCIS to do the work, which in a way is retrogession. There will be relief for people with advanced degrees but on paper only.As it will still take years for their paperwork to get through USCIS, others will be in a worse situation as the waiting line would be huge.
If Republicans win there will be no CIR as pointed out by others in the thread. However, SKIL might get through and that will help shorten the waiting period for people without advanced degrees.
Based on my analysis (which might be completely wrong), I think we are better off with Republicans.

zI have mentioned IV to a some Indians. They have no interest. Some of them are not bothered about retrogression. They exepect the GC to fall in their lap while they are sipping tea and eating samosa.
Also, it is hard to trust a mainly Indian set up. The Indian contracting companies have set a very shameless level. I told my friends that IV appears different but it is hard to change your opinion when you see something else 10 times a day.
I apolozie to the sensitive Indians if I this is breaking news. But this is the general feeling and a reason for hate in the blogs: where there is smoke there is fire. It is embarassing.

Dear admins,
I think deleting my post was not fair. The other people who have been bashing us with MS degrees need to also have their posts deleted.
I was not offensive in anyway, I just pointed out the reality of the situation and that is not "being offensive."
If you are afraid of alienating some of your contributors, well then by deleting the posts of ppl with Masters degrees you risk alienating them.
If I offended the admin personally if he/she does not have a masters degree, I apologize for hurting your "feelings" but that does not allow you to delete my post .
Finally, since 99% of the time the admins come back with not relevant to the thread, I agree on that ground but respectfully request the deletion of posts by a bunch of others like the "hiring manager" who instigated this discussion.

No reason to loose energy. Enjoy what you have and make the best out of it. Agree, this should be the way everybody lives his/her life. While you have little control of it, just enjoy your time as you usually do. Eat your favorite food, love your love, don't let anything behind because of this issue.
